Perhaps the last great vintage of the Pierre Morey era, 2004 shows its expected reduction but with so much more to offer. After a short time in the decanter it sings flaunting a floral freshness, lemon curd, honeysuckle and smoky minerals. The palate has amazing tension and purity with piercing citrusy acids and an incredibly persistent finish. Totally in the zone!

Medium gold color, much darker than the 04 Dauvissat next to it. Reductive nose. Hard to parse out the normal white burg descriptors. Has a harshness to it, even with air in the decanter during the day. I’ve had reasonably good luck with 2004 Leflaive, with the exception of the Pucelles which has had inconsistencies and flaws.

Nov 26th, 2021Medium gold color, a bit darker than other white burgundies from the weekend which were a few years older than this bottle. Worrisome nose as it’s got some funky caramel and sherry-like thing going on with it when opened. I think some might call this premox and assume it’s over the hill, but I’ve had some heavily reduced 04 Leflaives which eventually came around with some air. So we gave this 3-4 hours in the decanter, and sure enough, some of the Burgundy expressiveness finally showed up. Notes of tangerine and citrus, river stone, sweet white acacia flowers and some spice. While this evolved with a lot of air to a point where it was enjoyable and very drinkable, there is an issue with some of the 04 Leflaives where they come off as heavily reduced and even with air, they are dissimilar to the best Leflaives. I advise to give bottles like this some time before consumption to see if they work it out.

Feb 15th, 2021Canary light gold, great color. Mineral-driven nose with notes of citrus, macadamia nut, some spice and lots of river stone. Good fruit, matched with solid acidity. Still young. Good stuff.

Dec 29th, 2020Bright canary gold. Petrol nose. Notes of minerals, slate stone, citrus and a little sulfur. Great acidity with young primary fruit. Chewy. Long finish. Evolving at a glacial pace. You have to like the petrol nose thing to like this wine.

No premox here just tons of citrus and a hint of reduction. The nose is totally leflaive. Such a beautiful wine. This particular bottle has a lot of life left. Excellent
