1987. Strongly herbal (in a good way), lots of red fruit, powerhouse, very fresh, great wine from a great year, 13.0% alcohol, another Napa classic that would be considered "new California" today...

There is Randy Dunn and then there is everyone else. Wow! We always joke that a bottle of Dunn isn't ready if it's not, at least, 17-18 years aged. This is 26 and so silky, elegant, flavorful. Can't wait to sell the next 5 bottles.

Ruby centre with quite wide garnet rim . Ripe cherry , blackcurrant with notes of cedar, earth , grafite , tobacco and touch of coffee. On the palate quite good weight of mixed red and dark fruits, cranberry , blackcurrant , black cherry, hints of tobacco and grafite with those earthy and coffee undertones . Quite fine but noticeable tannins , good refreshing acidity , balanced alcohol and decent saline tinged finish . This appears to be firmly in its drinking window and there is no rush , will probably maintain at this level for the next 5-10 year . Better than the last bottle, less severe , the componentes better integrated , purer and with greater elegance .

Oct 11th, 2023Pretty deep colour , very narrow garnet rim . Very young looking . Quite concentrated meaty and ripe cassis fruit , dry spices . On the palate fruit concentrated also , with touch of dry noticeable tannin and high acidity . Cassis , tobacco , ripe blackberry and cherry . Slightly severe finish . With more time , becomes more mineral , grafite note , ripe cassis . Saline tinge on the finish . Needs time in decanter to properly integrate and open , though when it does it shows great balance and poise, lots of upside still.
