E. Guigal
Côtes du Rhône Red Rhône Blend
Always a hit. Earthy, leathery, a little moss funk. Ripe red fruit and some supporting acid and tanning keep the balance right.

E Guigal produces fine Rhône wines, had this a while ago, tried again. Ruby with aromas of dark berry fruit and earthy spice. On the palate flavors of black cherry and blackberry fruit, cacao, leather and earth notes, vivid acidity on well structured frame. Fine tannins, lingering finish ending with fruit character. Good now will cellar well, a bargain compared to its Hermitage neighbors.

My sister will be serving this at her wedding in September so she and I and our third sibling road tested it over dinner at Brixton's painfully cool and appropriately named popup concept, Pop. After a couple of minutes in the glass the wine softened to become a highly attractive wine with red fruit and floral notes. This wine will be a hit at the wedding!

May 7th, 2017This Rhone is never bad, but rarely great. A dried flower note on nose, some sweetness. Sweeter on palate, with some cherry, but thin. Always well made, but not always memorable. Bottle #3 in Maine.

Feb 18th, 2019Deep burgundy color with a bit of an acetone smell. Long legs. Strong spice taste and comes in like a lion and out like a lamb (finishes weaker than it starts).
