Excelsior
Syrah
Deep purple in color with a short purplish rim.
On the nose, black currants, cherries, light oak, vanilla, earth, green vegetables, beef jerky, spices, smoke, wet leaves, dark coffee, pencil lead, bitter herbs and black pepper.
Full bodied with medium plus acidity and long legs.
Dry on the palate with blackberries, black currants, plums, bell pepper, oak, licorice, cloves, earth, vegetables, graphite, spices, peppercorn, leather, smoke, red pepper, tobacco and coffee.
Medium finish with bitter tannins and tangy cranberries.
This South African Syrah is still young, but it is drinkable. Unbalanced with mild complexity. Spicy with a harsh mouthfeel.
Although inexpensive, I think it would benefit from one additional year in the bottle. I'm going to try my other bottle next year.
Needs 3 hours in a decanter to open up properly. Not very tasty right out of the bottle.
Would pair well with BBQ Meats. I paired it with hard cheeses and crackers.
14% alcohol by volume.
82 Points.
$9.
