Redolent on the nose, lots of finesse on the palate and especially notable for ripe, silky tannins. Not a powerhouse this is instead the epitome of elegance. Black cherry, sour cherry, clove, leather, violet and celery balsamic notes dominate the nose with the palate filling out with forest floor and a silky texture. Already showing good tertiary notes but clearly there is much more to come.

The 2018 Fontalloro is bright, floral and full of energy. In most vintages, Fontalloro is quite open, but the 2018 is especially nervy and taut. That won't be an issue in time, of course, but readers should plan on being patient. Sangiovese is so expressive here. A whole range of floral and savory accents lingers on the close. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, September 2021)

100% Sangiovese, med ruby, med+ aromas of red cherry, baking spice, currant. Med+ acidity, tannins and finish. Opened up over an hour, flavors of olive, red cherry, black tea. Elegant IGT, low QPR however.
