The 2003 Terra Di Lavoro is a blend of Aglianico and Piedirosso, vines that have been coaxed into production along the steep, volcanic hillsides of northwestern Campania. Tasted blind, the aromatics are reminiscent of an aged Côte-Rôtie, with primal notes of moist earth, truffle, mushroom, game, smoke and bacon fat. The intensity on the nose suggests a fuller wine, but in reality Terra di Lavoro is medium bodied, with fine tannins and precise balance. It finishes with notes of leather, tobacco and char.

Graphite, leather and hints of lavender hit you in the face. Despite the vintage lively acidity keeps what is a big wine under control. This wine is all about teroir. The only thing that kept it from getting a higher score was some heat on the finish.

Earthy nose. Absolutely no fruit left. Not much acidity either! Really just sweet and earthy and old-smelling. Disappointing, and very atypical for an Aglianico. Bought from an unknown collection- likely a poorly stored bottle, so no rating.
