Riserva Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend
Sultry color. Nose has ripe, sweet cherry and vanilla. Some nice sun-warmed gravel underneath. Oak-derived tannins are prominent in the mouth, but not overwhelming. Fruit is low-key and low-toned in the mouth. Fair amount of oak and minerals. I’m not sure the fruit is vibrant enough to facilitate the aging that would allow the oak to more fully integrate. It’s good in its way, but not the style I usually seek out. (But it’s a gift from my brother and I’m thankful to be drinking it tonight!)

Sep 7th, 2022Blend of Sangiovese (90%), Merlot (5%) and Syrah (5%). Dark ruby color with a thin garnet rim. Sour cherry on the nose with hints of black fruit, violets and baking spices. Tart and ripe black cherry/berry/raspberry fruit on the palate with notes of black pepper, chai spices and vanilla. Distinct mineral note on the long and earthy finish. Full bodied and high alcohol with noticeable tannins. High acidity keeps the wine well balanced. Nice complexity.

Soft on the palate, fruit forward after 20 minutes decanted.
Enjoyed with farfalle pasta with long simmering red meat sauce with capers & black olives. The 2016 vintage is mature and ready to drink!
