Gaja
Barbaresco Nebbiolo
Pretty plummy fruit. Really stunning and clear, lifted fruit. Hints of roses, wild strawberry. Something great about this. A really well kept bottle.

Mar 22nd, 2015Like Piedmontese heaven! Dried red fruits of cherry and cranberry with loads of truffles, roses, tar and Hores hair. It has a gingerbread like finish that seems to last for years! 1961!

Nov 2nd, 2012A bit of earthy funk on the nose, fantastic deep ruby color, cassis and forest on the nose. Palate is angular, lean yet balanced: cherry, rose, cured meats. Yes and yes!

Jan 28th, 20161961 Gaja Barbaresco. Wonderful slightly cloudy light garnet. Fresh aromas of white blossom and rose petal. Violets. Dried flowers. Bitumen. Savoury spice. Forest floor. On the palate, medium body and alcohol. The tannins are faintly detectable but totally integrated into the wine so they hard to detect. Medium plus intensity. Sour cherry, sour fig. Dried flowers. Tar and bitumen. High acidity keeps this delicate beauty powering forward. This wine is not tired or old. There's a hint of VA, but if anything it lifts the wine and adds to the complexity. I think this wine could keep for another decade without fading. Finish is long, but delicate. The sour fruit profile to the fore, with the dried flowers -potpourri. Wonderful for such a distinguished wine and vintage. Viva Gaja. NB: after an hour in a decanter, this wine is singing. Herbal, menthol and savoury aromas. Dried fruits - dried apricot, plum and lemon pieces mixed with the petal aromas, as if they were carelessly strewn in front of your very feet. Hedonistic.
