Costa Russi Langhe Nebbiolo

Lots of fun bottles were popped at Al’s hosting this past weekend for his birthday celebration. All were served blind. 1 sparkler, 2 whites, 6 reds and 1 dessert wine.

This one was a bit of an oddball. Most were between burgundy or Barolo, but the one thing we all had in common was thinking this was at least 20+yrs old. It tasted, by flavor and even texture, like I was sipping/chewing on rose petals. Lots of sediment. Tar, black tea and herbs on the nose with a classic cherry tobacco finish. Don’t have a lot of experience with this wine to know how it ages. I called this old Barolo.

Well balanced, great good wine

Tannins were surprisingly relaxed. Very versatile at the table with the ability to expand and contract with food.

Earth, cherry, leather on both the nose and palate. Sang when combined with the pasta

Silky smooth tannins with pretty dried roses and cherries. Perfectly balanced.

Full of potential and already beautiful on the nose but still way too young. Will be much better in 15-20 years.

Needs time to decant. Try again in 3 years.

Still young. One hour to breathe makes huge difference. Lovely wine.
