When they hand you the massive wine list and say “pick something interesting...within reason”. Pretty easy with Gargiulo on the list. Had the pleasure of meeting winemaker Kristof Anderson 2 years ago and toured the GV facility to see him in action. Amazing winery and some of the best grapes in the valley...what could go wrong? (Had them decant for an hour while the other guests roasted me on my second departure from Hard Rock Internaional on my way back to Darden for a second tour there...restaurant world is small.) Once poured out, it danced firmly across the palet. Still a little tight, but the dark fruits and medium tannins balanced out and went with the wagyu nicely.

Heck of a 3rd Friday to kick off the holidays!

Shocked this is a ‘15! Totally smooth. All over the fruit spectrum, red, blue and black. Vanilla pipe tobacco, plum, toasted coconut, and a slick-currant/cool climate/underripe dark fruit finish.

What a treat to taste this magnificent 15’ the 2nd time after 2 years.

Expressive but not showy, powerful yet restrained. This bottle shows more of the perfectly ripened Napa fruits. A beauty that will age gracefully.

This needs at least a half hour decant. After that it drinks really well. Gorgeous black and dark red fruit. Smooth.

Decanted 2 hours. Fairly retrained on the nose, getting some red and black fruit and oak. A little burst of black/red fruit with a light punch of cassis. Earthy, balanced and restrained. Hints of vanilla and pipe tobacco. Drinking well but I need to leave some to age a few more years, this can go a lot further.

Again drinking almost pnp, just a short decant and this one opens up nicely. Getting red, blue, and black fruit. A cassis undertone that comes out near the finish. Begins with brighter blue and red fruit. Tannins are medium and could still soften with time in bottle. Also tobacco, slight vanilla, plum, granite. Medium length finish. I’ve had several of these, think I’ll leave a few to rest for a couple more years and see how they evolve.

Drinking surprisingly well now for a ‘15. Pretty close to PNP. Lots of fruit but not too ripe. Red and black fruit. Drinking very smooth.

Big and bold, still needs some more time to mature, but drinking well.
