Tight and tannic, but still with plenty of expressiveness. Better in a few years, but still really nice now.

Chiaroscuro is an art term for the juxtaposition of light and dark. Think Baroque stuff. Think Caravaggio and my personal fave Artemesia Gentileschi. Can I get any more pretentious in my reference? Probably but I won’t. Really good Barolo does this dang chiaroscuro thing. Vajra does this. The dried plum, roasted plum, almost overripe roses and perhaps...cocoa sipped while sniffing an old leather book are dark. But the acid and body are bright and light. Ridiculously good. Wine is art.

The Sweet Life is fast becoming a Martha's Vineyard fixture. A young couple run the place and put a twist in classic dishes, locally sourced. This means that the menu might not always be completely accurate but market driven changes are always appreciated. Vajra's Albe is always a delicious choice, especially for the price. The 2012 is no exception - light bodied, red fruit, rose petals and leather. It was the standout value on the list.
