1971: Very fresh bottle, originally purchased from RWC, served by Quince to pair with white truffle menu. Exhibiting a youthful variant of maturity, perfect to experience now. Cherry fruit at center, with tar and spice in the background. When Borgogno bottles have been well maintained, they provide as much pleasure as any.

1971. Great nose and range of aromatics. Palate never really opened or showed the bottle 'sweetness' I like to see in these wines. Classic profile but remained a bit direct and linear.

Still some youthful signs in structure but overall mostly developed.slightly dried red cherries only show at entry and quickly give way to decomposed waterlogged forest tree trunk. Not as much truffle as one would hope, the touch of dried porcini on the nose and attack takes backseat to hoisin/wet fern notes from the mid palate and on.
