Toetto Langhe Freisa

Fabulous. A little harsh on opening. Evolved nicely over a few hours. Even better the next day. I drank with a slight chill on the bottle. š

Nice wine. Freisa is the grape, a local Piedmontese variety. Quite juicy and fruity on the nose with a bit of burnt rubber. Tannins are there on the finish along with balanced acid, but this is more about fruit.

My first Freisa. On the nose it resembles a Nebbiolo with lots of cherry note and some mild spice. Tart, but also hint of popcorn butter-like sweetness. Threw in the astringent tannins, the palate is actually quite interesting, though it certainly lacks the complexity and elegance of a good Nebbiolo. Nevertheless a good experience.
From the Toetto vineyard coplanted with Nebbiolo. 425 cases made.
