Smoky ash-pit minerality leads on the nose with richly extracted berry ooze. Nice baking spice notes. Rich but balanced in the mouth. Great purity of fruit and balance of savory elements. Pretty good acids too. Long long finish. Tannins there but submerged. Really fine.

The 2014 Lagniappe is an outstanding bottling from Gramercy Cellars, this Syrah was sourced from the Forgotten Hills, Red Willow and Minick Vineyards. The wine underwent 66% whole cluster fermentation and was aged for 18 months in used puncheons prior to bottling. This shows wonderful aromatics of dried herbs, red cherry, red raspberry, rose petals, Parma ham and blood orange. There are ripe flavors of black cherry, Chinese black tea, mint, coffee grounds and hints of orange rind and anise. This dense Syrah needs a two hour decant for full expression and drinks even better on the second day. Lithe and light on its feet, this will cellar well for at least another ten years. Drink 2019-2029- 93

100% Syrah. 80% sourced from Red Willow and 20% from Forgotten Hills. Oldest Syrah vines in Yakima. 66% whole cluster. Cellared in both 225 & 500 liter Puncheons for 22 months. On the nose, ripe; blackberries, blueberries, dark cherries, black raspberries, brilliant violets & purple florals, dry rock dust, black licorice and dark soils. On the palate; blackberries, black raspberries, black plum, black raspberry cola, deep spices, gritty volcanic minerals, dry stems, notes of dry herbs, pepper, smoke with bright, round, fresh acidity. The body is lean to medium. The fresh finish is long, rich with a great even balance of fruit & earth.

Floral, strawberries, blueberries, dried black fruits, oak, olive, black pepper, fragrant. Smoked meat, mocha, earthy. Full bodied, medium tannins, med+ acidity. Long finish. Wow. 6 years is indeed the ready to drink time.

I could drink Syrah like this alone or with a meal. Harmonious in all aspects and so pleasurable ro drink.

Think we need more time in bottle to mellow and integrate.

The 2014s are great and going to be better with age. Such a fantastic example of what WW can produce for Syrah. Doesn't get much better.
