Grgich Hills Estate
Napa Valley Chardonnay
Wow, what a Chard from California's King of Chardonnay. The 2012 vintage has a generous, creamy nose, and on the palate so crisp with an amazing purity of fruit with very little oak to get in the way. Aged in French oak, using indigenous yeasts, from 100% Chardonnay grapes.

Prior notes still apply, love this producer, Burgundian style in Napa, last bottle.

The nose throws me every time on this bottle, a little Burgundian with stemmy, grape seed notes, little oak influence, mild citrus. Buy this and hold for only a few years for a reward. Not your typical Napa style.
@David T saw your notes on this vintage, maybe consider a little more bottle age? I do consider this a pretty good value for CA, delivering the above notes for $35 and two years in our cellar.

Blind tasting. This is the one that surprised the hell outta me. Very clean, minimal oak and great minerality.

Nov 21st, 2016Mike Grgich, the “King of Chardonnay” farms w/o pesticides and certified organic. Aged 10 months and did not undergo malolactic fermentation. The color is a pale golden yellow with aromas of stone, tropical fruit and citrus. The palate shows off apple, melon and peach flavors, with some orange rind and nutty notes coming through. The finish was rich and creamy with some spicy mineral and perfumed tones lingering to a complex ending. Not your typical California Chardonnay, Grgich delivers like a few can!

Apr 12th, 2016First impression of the 2012 Grgich Hills Chardonnay—it's old-school and intense. Classic orchard fruit aromas are couched in flint and matchstick that hover like an electric storm over rather more tender notes of toasted walnut, brioche, and acacia honey. In the mouth, there's not an ounce of fat, it's lean with considerable energy and verve. There is smoothness, sure—but it's cleanly cut by lemon zest and white grapefruit pith, with minerally, toast notes emerging on the finish. 13.5% ABV | Sample
