Maison Castel
Grande Réserve Sélection du Terroir Cabernet Sauvignon
Dark red-purple in the glass. Nose of cassis and graphite. Echoed on the palate with a wee bit of green (pyrazine green) on the back palate. Medium body. Medium acidity. Medium plus tannins, especially assertive toward the finish. Fruit is more present than in the Appellations, but nowhere near as over the top as in California or Chile. In other words, a really well balanced offering at a bargain price. I’m not a Cab fan, but this could easily make my “everyday” go-to list. Beef is its natural friend, of course.
