It's time for my Friday's Cabernet fix. delicious Napa Cab.

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.

Strong nose of blackberries, black currants, cooked cherries, figs, raisins, light alcohol, cedar, vanilla, licorice, spices, light cloves, chocolates, mocha, coke and dark coffee.

Full bodied and bold with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry and very fruity on the palate with blackberries, blueberries, sweet strawberries, oak, vanilla, chocolate cake, coffee, earth, light vegetables, pencil lead, tobacco and peppercorn.

Long finish with round tannins and tangy raspberries.

This Napa Cabernet Sauvignon is delicious. This is from a great vintage (2012) and it is showing. Rich and extracted with nice complexity and mouthfeel. I liked the tangy ending.

This 7 year old is drinking very nicely now and will be good in the next 5 to 7 years. Needs 3 hours to open up properly, but good right out of the bottle.

A blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Petit Verdot, 8% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc. Aged for 18 months in (30%) New French oak barrels.

Thank you Wendy for sharing this with me.

15.2% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

$90.

Nothing but the best from the best. Refined and powerful for a relatively great price.

I love anything Philipe Melka makes! One of the top 9 wine makers in the world according to Robert Parker, this Napa cab 100% reflects that standard. BIG, explosive and fruitful, with a gradient that just continuously grows and grows, picking up from each sip where it left off! I'm quite enthused that he would call this his table red. If you want a Cab that'll change how you perceive napa cab, this is a must try.

This evolved to be a lovely complex and more balanced wine over the evening. On the pop-n-pour it was all extracted candied red fruit but it eventually completely changed on us to reveal some nice complexity.

Solid California Cabernet. Must be decanted (2 hours) if you really want to taste. Very smooth but a little lacking in depth and complexity in my opinion, perhaps that will come with ageing. Some nice, cocoa, coffee and marshmallow elements on the finish which I enjoyed.

I have never had a Melka wine before so I did not know what to expect. The 2012 CJ blend is wonderful glass of wine. The Cabernet, Petit Verdot, Merlot and Cab Franc blends into a wonderful blend. Aromas of red fruit and new leather and a hint of cedar greet you. You will find nice compromise with the acid and tannins. Delicious fruits linger in your mouth beckoning for more. I will definitely try their other offerings.
