This was still a bit of a baby. Much more life than expected based on a number of other 2012’s I’ve had.

The color is still very dark.

Showed nice evolution & integration. Nicely ripe, blackberries, black raspberries, both plums but more black, layered baking spices, moist tobacco, soft leather, elegantly soft earthiness, beautiful, round, dark spices, beautiful dark & red flowers with lavender and violets, excellent, round acidity, extremely well balanced, very elegant finish with great length.

Easily has another 10-15 yrs of good drinking left w/ proper storage. Think it will show another point in another 5yrs.

It is time for my #FridayCabernetfix.

Dark ruby in color with a short reddish rim.

Fruity nose of black fruits, cedar, spices, chocolates, coffee, licorice, cola, light pencil lead, tobacco leaf, herbs and black pepper.

Full-bodied with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate and very fruity with black currants, blackberries, plums, cola, cooked cherries, cedar, licorice, chocolates, vanilla, coffee and peppercorn.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries.

This 13 year old Napa Cabernet is drinking beautifully now, and will continue to drink nicely in the next 5 years.

Showing nice complexity with a soft mouthfeel. Elegant, rich and in your face kind of wine.

Good right out of the bottle, and better after 2 hours of airtime.

A gorgeous Cabernet, but I prefer the 2010 vintage.

Wine Spectator 91 points. Wine Enthusiasts 94 points.

Extracted, and good by itself as a sipping wine.

A blend of mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with small amounts of Merlot, Petit Verdot and Malbec.

15.2% alcohol by volume.

93 points.

$150.

Muted nose. This wine is very easy to drink. Black plum, blackberries, blueberries, dark raspberries, easy minerals, rich dark earth, violets, black cherry licorice. There's a Grenache feel is this wine. Tannins round and evolved. It soft, elegant and round on the finish but there's something missing on the finish for now.

2012 is tasting great. Very smooth with complex flavors including dark fruit, leather, wet stone.

Tight. Double decant. Should get (a lot?) better.

I rated Merus 8.8. There were over 50 wines at a fundraiser event for Aloha Bowl at Waialae Country Club last week. Merus was one of the better wines that evening and I would recommend to all cab lovers.
