Orin Swift Cellars
Blank Stare Sauvignon Blanc
Bright straw gold. Very shy nose and medium light palate of baked green apple, citrus rind, candied honeysuckle (Muscat showing its strength even at 3%), and birch. Medium (not quite minus) acidity. An interesting take on Sauvignon with aromatics enhanced by Muscat, acidity tamped down by noticeable French oak, and boosted Body by Phinney™. Not for the New Zealand or Bordeaux or Loire Valley or even standard Cali Fumé Blanc crowd. It’s its own animal. Swordfish or crab cakes come immediately to mind as a pair, but try it as a replacement for your New World Chardonnay. Drink now through 2022.

Apr 6th, 2024Dense, verging on oily.
Tastes like a big bowl of fruit salad (grapes, cantaloupe, green pineapple and apricots; seasoned with touches of mint and lemonzest).
A big, bold and audacious SB.

Super dry notes of woodiness, and acidic notes tart citrus, limoncello, and lemongrass on the nose. Very pale lemon color with medium-thin legs. Tastes more mellow than it smells, with white peaches n cream and Bosc pear on the palate, and hints of river stone, passion fruit, and gingery astringency lingering on the finish. Nicely balanced and polished with a subtle creamy quality. Great showing for a sauv blanc, probably would go good with white fish, crustaceans, escargot, and creamy Alfredo dishes. Great by itself :)

Oct 27th, 2020Lovely nose, white orchard fruit, freshly cut herbs, On the palate typical warm-climate SB, Good freshness when served right from the fridge. Alas, the finish is slightly marred by an abundance of citrus peel bitterness and alcoholic heat (15,5% ABV...)
