Oveja Negra
Reserva Maule Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Syrah

Pretty great!! A nice drinkable carmenere with a great flavor. A good "cheap"bottle of wine - I'd probably pay $15 or less for it

60% Cab Franc 40% Carmenere which dominates the nose with pretty Cab Franc florals and spicy fruit behind. While the nose is quite pretty the palate is thin and weedy, not surprising for $8. Both grapes are hard to overcrop but it tastes like an over cropped Southern Italian screwcap Sangiovese blend, though blessedly lacking in oak. Quite dry for an export wine but needing acid to fight the flat Carmenere veneer. Needs food, but not in the good way. Again, the nose with a bit of reductive funk behind the tomato/berry/spice flowers is the real virtue.
