Way more balanced and graceful than I expected. Big wine, no doubt, but still elegant with lifted white floral and crushed blueberry notes.

Rocks on! Uberiffic minerality, purple/black fruit, beastly finish

Reached pretty far back in the cellar for this one. Pax Mahl was making some terrific wines out of his eponymous winery (Obsidian and Griffin’s Lair were my favorites), until some sort of flare-up between him and Joe Donelan eventually resulted in them splitting the vineyard accesses between them and shutting down the winery. After 15 years, this wine is still going strong. Great example of a cooler climate north coast syrah.

Still has the bouquet but a little bit in between. Mushrooms aren’t there but the pepper has mellowed. I would wait a bit longer on this one

One of my favorite northern california syrahs. This guy was pungent and leathery. I had to check the bottle to make sure i wasnt drinking a Cayuse.

QPR Syrah kings! Dark purple in the glass. Mild blue fruit nose. Super complex palate with blackberries, slate, vanilla. Finish is quite dry. Lots of tannin and acid. What a great bottle for the price.

Deep, dark Syrah that is incredibly balanced and mineral driven. Honored to drink some of the last bottles of this vintage.

An inky maroon, the '05 Pax Syrah 'Obsidian Vineyard' saturates the air with gorgeous scents of black cherry, blackberry, cedar and molten licorice. The lush and powerful black fruit flavors literally overwhelm the tastebuds. A noticeable minerality though keeps it all in focus through the persistent spicy finish. The Obsidian Vyd. never disappoints.
