I tried submitting a tasting note 2 days ago and Delectable didn’t accept it and it then disappeared. The thing I recall the most about this wine was that it tasted more warm climate like Bin 28 and Barossa than Bin 128 and cool climate from Coonawarra. More red and black fruits than the expected spice and pepper. This is the first of 4 and very early in its life. Recalling the 2 x 1998s of Bin 128 I’ve had in the last 18 months like 90% of Penfolds Cuvées Bin 128 is built to cellar.

Nose of; blackberries, dark cherries, black raspberries, black plum, anise, warm soft spices and red & pink roses. Palate has M+ tannins, black currants, tardy black licorice, star anise, dark chocolate, mocha powder, blackberries, dark cherries, black raspberries, black plum, plum, leather, dry crushed rock powder, sticky meaty tannins that makes for a very dry finish at this point. Photos of the old bins from that is included in so many of their wine names and all that great wine stock behind the tasting room bar.

Drunk young, but this was a hugely approachable and enjoyable wine. Mellow spice on the nose, whilst the taste was full, without being too fruity. Light hint of spice and cherry, lovely long finish.

Deep blueberry color and nice legs. Great aroma of tannins. Tasted at cellar door and bought for future use. Widely available.
