Very few bottles of wine have impressed me more than this. Near perfect on all fronts. The mousse is so creamy and has a rich yeasty texture, yet is balanced by an underlying freshness. The quality of the 2004 vintage in Champagne shines through this wine. What a treat.

Well it’s my first day back to work today for 2019 and I’m pretty excited for what the year has in store for me. A definite highlight for 2019 already was enjoying this bottle of Perrier-Jouët 2004 Belle Époque Blanc de Blancs Champagne at the highest open air champagne bar in the world, Flute at Lebua Hotel in Bangkok on the 64th floor. Mr Spittoon and I had the most amazing night hanging out with this pretty elixir.

If you don’t already know, 2004 is a pretty special year for us as it’s the year we met. Whenever we get the opportunity to treat ourselves to an 04 champagne we indulge (if the bank balance allows it). 2004 may not be an ‘excellent’ vintage like the likes of 98 and 02 for instance, but it’s pretty darn good and it holds that personal significance for us.

🔸 100% Chardonnay

🔸 The grapes are from 2 vineyard parcels: Bouron Leroi and Bouron du midi, situated in the heart of the Côte des Blancs in the terroir of Cramant

🔸 Perrier-Jouët have owned the above vineyards since the early 19th century

🔸 Grown on the famous chalky soil the Champagne region is known for

🔸 Matured for 8 years prior to being released

It may have been the beauty of the Bangkok city lights below us however in the glass it has a wonderful pale yellow street light hue to it. The bubbles have softened over time making it not overly bubbly in the glass or on the palate but instead it has this elegant mellowness to it. The nose is rather biscuity with a lovely perfume of florals and preserved citrus. While in the mouth it has a silky texture and is floral but has a ‘marzipan finish and composition’. That last bit was Mr Spittoon’s words 🥰

An amazing wine in an amazing spot. Here’s hoping the rest of the year is just as amazing 🤩

All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!

I wanted to love this but a very bitter finish made it less than appealing, perhaps a bad bottle or just a very bad sparkling day.
