Gold color fairly reticent nose, probably needs decant but did not. A fave producer. Mostly lanolin, beeswax, medium body. Had with five spice duck. Yum!

One of my first experiences with natural wine was a Bornard Pét-Nat (“En Go-Guette”) at a restaurant in Montreal back in 2013, so Bornard holds a special place in my heart. The last “Les Gaudrettes” I had was a 2007, and that vintage showed a very intentional oxidative streak. However, I didn’t get any of that in the 2016. This was very pure and mineral-driven Chardonnay. Apples, pear, hay, and citrus. I would say this vintage is probably drinking at peak now but it’s possible that a few more years could lead to more interesting secondary, or even tertiary, elements.
