Pierre Gonon
"Les Oliviers" Saint-Joseph Marsanne-Roussanne Blend
Stunning. Marzipan, smoke, cheese rind, lemon, almond. Very clean and chiseled but with ample roundness on the finish. Should continue to evolve for some time

Nov 24th, 2023Stupendous, maybe the best Rhône white I’ve ever had. Pale gold, smells like tiny white spring blossoms, baked apple and Meyer lemon. Viscous, oily mouthfeel with more lemon and flowers, peaches, melon, honey, tea and marzipan, a little smoky on the back, somehow maintains great freshness through all of that. The Gonon St Joseph rouge is probably overrated at this point (I wouldn’t know, it’s been a while and it’s too expensive) but this might be underrated

Sep 28th, 2020This will probably be upgraded to a 9.5 with some bottle age. Incredibly youthful yet extraordinarily complex. White blossoms, honey suckle, stone fruit dance with citrus and lemon zest. The palate is beautifully balanced and while it has the classic oil viscosity the wines acidity does a fantastic job of cleansing your palate. I look forward to pulling the cork on another bottle in 4-5 years!

1 person found it helpfulJul 30th, 2021Slight barnyard nose. Gives way to a nice full bodied wine. A bit rustic/tannic but well integrated and nice for a young wine.
