Still young but exceptionally aristocratic, noble, clean and pleasant.

Best Colonnello ever? Might well be the case, as this version shows an elegance seldom associated with this site. Served blind, I was tilting towards 2008 Cicala. Says it all; major surprise!

'06 vintage. What to say..... I am in love with Conterno work, Gran Bussia 00 being one of my all time favorite wine.
Very sexy, roses and potpourri like nose, this is quite fragrant, complex and mysterious. Every swirl brings in something different. The mouthwfeel is quite austere at first, monastic and cold but it evolves beautifully. Tannins are perfectly well integrated, chewy and generous. This is a foodie wine that calls for tons of protein or hearty sauce. All I can think is of a beautiful slow cooked lamb shank, truffles polenta or truffled risotto with lardo. This is a giant. Buy all you can. Will be around for a decade at least.

So ... it’s apparently been almost 5 years since the last one of these ... and they haven’t been kind. Since then the best I can say is that the tannins have smoothed our, though it’s lost fruit but not oak, and hasn’t picked up anything else interesting. Guess (hope?) these need a while longer to be ready 🤷‍♂️

Hauntingly beautiful. All the right pieces in place for another 20 years, but why not drink it now?
