Apr 16th, 2017A PCC pick up - this one and another Italian brother, (to be rated later...), were picked up at the same time at comparable price points. The Quattro Mani label is a Domaine Select wine label that specializes in a few Italian varietals. The Barbera grape, grown and done right, should give us deep red or black fruit character with high acid and low tannin - smack you in the face flavor. Not known well to keep, Barbera should be enjoyed within 2-4 years of bottling. Didn't mind this little ditty paired with a "Quentin Florentino" pizza (artichoke, sun-dried tomato, spinach) from Zeek's, but once finished, uuuuuuhhhh, what am I drinking again? ~$15 | #barbera #piemonte #italianwine
On the eyes: Med concentration, clear, bright, blood red/violet, med stain, med tears, no gas/floc.
On the nose: Chalky, blackberry, overripe black plum, star anise/clove, med alcohol.
On the tongue: Med tannin+, med acid, med alcohol, med body, unbalanced tannin. Blackberry, blueberry, stewed fruit character, a bit chalky with hints of dried leaves and clove/anise/nutmeg (think - a diluted spicy chai, on a good day), but once the fruit fades, there is not much there...Don't expect much more from this one.
