Rene Rostaing
Ampodium Côte-Rôtie Syrah
Still looking for balance
Explosion of freshness and flavour
Long and elegant
I reckon it needs time, but honestly this one is a guess.
I find the evolution of the wines from Northern Rhone still hard to read sometimes especially when they are at this stage.
I would love to taste this wine in 10 years and see where it goes

Blueberry jam, boysenberry, black peppercorn, purple flowers, touch of coffee grind. Pretty balanced and integrated, drinking well now. Fairly long finish.

Apr 12th, 2017This was on our Father’s day lunch at USC. Very dark ruby robe, flowers and spices nose, dense and medium bodied with good length and complexity. The wine is balanced, fresh, does not betray alcohol levels. Actually great now, but lots of potential. Recommended !!

Jun 20th, 2021Nice typical Syrah aromatics with violets and white pepper, some olives too. The palate is soft to medium bodied, elegant and classy, the finish has a very slight tangy and drying feel to it though, very good even if not the most complex and needs more time. The entry level of Rostaing’s Côte Rotie.
Belle Syrah avec ses arômes de violettes et de poivre blanc. La Bouche assez souple et fine, belle élégance et classe, finale très légèrement asséchante et acidulée, pas le plus complexe mais délicieux et a besoin de temps encore. 90-91

Pretty ideal Syrah. Peppery, tobacco aromas, well balanced. Paired well with Indian butter chickpeas.

Sep 19th, 2018Wow. Never thought I would call a Syrah delicate, but this bottle was filled with a ton of lift and complexity. I bow down to René.

Nov 27th, 2017Garnet to purple. Small rim. Brick coloured.
Silky yet muscular. Lovely medium bodied texture. Medium to medium plus tannin structured. Fresh acidity. Raspberries, dark fruits, bacon. Strong finnish.
Serve at 15 degrees with a tartar with egg yolk and a baconflavoured mayo.
