Rey Fernando de Castilla
Antique Palo Cortado Sherry
Beautiful wine. Blend of 30+ year old nutty deliciousness. Dark caramel and amber colors. Rich and fuller bodied with burnt caramel, oranges, almonds and toasted hazelnuts at the finish line. Perfect acid balance from the get go. Length along the palate for miles. 20% ABV.

Dec 25th, 2017A very complex and layered wine. Great depth. Toasted nuts, graham cracker pie crust, dried apricot, golden raisins, crushed rocks, pain aux raisins, sea salt. There's a great earthy layer almost like damp button mushrooms. Lots of umami character. Love the nose, almost with this allusion that theres lots of RS but palate is defined and elegant. A beam of acid followed by a finish that is very persistent.

Apr 1st, 2016@Delectable Wine - this is the Fernando de Castilla Antique Palo Cortado Sherry. A healthy example of tension between honeyed aromatics, bright nervy acid & subtle saline & nutty flavors. A paradoxical wine to me when I consider the relative scarcity & "occurring" nature of Palo Cortado. It strikes me as what I would consider as a benchmark of dry sherry, but is a bit of a rare bird. Utterly stunning.
