Never really properly tried Californian wine and have always been sceptical about it, but I picked up this 2000 Ridge to change my preconceptions. And wow. Zinfandel, pretty fumy on the nose but what an emulsion of dark fruit and a long, long, dry finish. Beautiful.

Very much alive and quite pleasurable. Another superbly balanced zin (blend) with black pepper, dark berries, raspberry and some licorice and grilled meat.
