Ridge Vineyards
Geyserville Sonoma County Zinfandel Blend
This has been resting in my cellar since release and figured this might be ready to go on the pop and pour. I was wrong. Please don’t misunderstand, it’s a treat to drink, it’s just still very young. So much so, in fact, that it took three days to really begin stretching its legs. Well endowed with fruit, I wouldn’t try again for at least another couple of years. I expect it will probably drink very well for another 10-12 years.

Jan 25th, 2020The 2012 Ridge Vineyards ‘Geyserville’ is a silky blend of 71% Zinfandel, 19% Carignane, 7% Petite Sirah, 2% Mataro and 1% Alicante Bouschet. Inky once in the glass, the wine takes on heady aromas of incense, mocha, ripe black plum and black cherry syrup that all entice. The palate is plush, showing a generous texture and mouthfeel. Black tea, blueberry pie, coffee grounds and suggestions of tar flavors all mingle nicely. Showing an edge of minerality, this exciting Zinfandel blend is drinking marvelously now but has a long life left in the cellar. Drink 2019-2030- 92

Apr 4th, 2019Stunning ...the nose is melted licorice, spice, slight menthol..wonderful smell with ripe red/dark fruit. Med acid/med tannin...long linger. This is day 4 and at its best. Good decant would have made me drink the entire bottle in 2hrs!

Jan 6th, 2018I love Ridge!!! So it's no secret that I love their Geyserville. Delicious and balanced Zin field blend. Great acid backbone that gives lift to the dark berry and smoky fruits. Killer!

Nov 5th, 2017Another great Ridge. There is a bit of v/a - brettanomyces on the nose but the palate is solid. 71% Zinfandel, 19% Carignane, 7% Petite Syrah, 2% Mataro & 1% Alicante Bouschet. This blend changes year to year but, the quantity is always solid. Once again, I’ve been at this a long time, but I have never opened a bad bottle of Ridge.
Ripe, juicy; blackberries, black raspberries, plum, dark cherries, boysenberries, raspberries over that hover over the top. Touch a black pepper, dry crushed rocks, volcanic limestone minerals, dark, rich soils, pine tar, melted, dark chocolate, caramel notes, vanillin, some black tar, notes of herbaceousiness, moist clay, violet for days, some lavender, amazing acidity with a well balanced, smooth structure/tension and a beautiful finish that lasts a full minute.
Happy Labor Day weekend!

Even better on day two. Grapey, zippy, and hedonistic.
