Ridge Vineyards
Gonsalves Contra Costa County Mataro
Good but a bit blown out tasting for my palate. Mari liked it more. Had with bbq lamb, so that was good.

Sep 6th, 2023The first vintage of this wine. 100% Mataro/Mourvèdre/Monastrell. A delicious and beautiful wine, but it would be hard to surmise Bandol or Jumilla, let alone California.
Air is kind. Will likely age well. Grown on sandy soils. Previously part of the advanced tasting program.

2018 Ridge Gonsalves Mataro (Contra Costa County). This is delicious but flirts with a bit of underripeness (in a good way). Nose has a slight vegetal note (as my brother pointed out), but also has vanilla and nice ripe cherry. No inderripeness in the mouth, with great acid/fruit balance. Delicious and a unique take in that it avoids blowsey jamminess that some wineries get from warm Contra Costa County fruit.
