A good vintage infill wine when tasting a vertical flight from 94 to 97. Not nearly the best of the options but opens with great robust flavor. Definitely speaks in oak tongue as it dances upon the palate.

Drinking this legendary 1996 R.M. cab was an experience indeed. Sadly, past its prime, it fell flat, singing like an amputee, who can't carry a tune or hold a note. Much like envisioning a Peter O'Toole in his Lawrence of Arabia days and looking at him in his later years. Though I'd still graciously finish the bottle, this vintage was already becoming one with it's maker. Pun intended.

A nice wine but I had greater expectations from To Kalon. Cranberry and earthy are good descriptions. Not much Tannins. Picked up at a charity auction. I think it had not been stored well at some point.

Apr 14th, 2015Best Bottle Dinner. The 1995 Mondavi Reserve was our WOTN; complex, very balanced, super elegant and very, very long; at its peak but good for another 5+ years (94). La Mission Haut Brion 1996 came in second; complex, smooth & balanced; at its peak but should continue to drink well for another 8 to 10 years (93). This Mondavi Reserve 1996 finished third; Balanced, yet riper, fuller and broader than the Reserve 1995; a more “easy-drinking” style from a warmer growing season; still outstanding; at its peak, drink up (92). Another great BBD evening in great company! 92
