Salcheto
Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Sangiovese
A very enjoyable “Toscana” that is young now but can be enjoyed if there is food to pair with it. Aromatically, it came across as modern with ripe black cherry, currant, and tobacco. On the palate, good acidity with a streak of tart cherry down the middle, complemented by iron, tar and rose petal. Pop with a few slices of pizza and enjoy the ride.

Feb 9th, 2019Enjoyed over 4 days and just got better each day. This is what you’d drink every day in Tuscany. SS

Jun 7th, 2020For the price paid, this delivers what it promises. The nose is red fruit and tobacco leaf it does have almost a volcanic red clay sort of thing going on. Entry shows very bright acidity with medium body, raspberry, tobacco. Had a green-ness to it...green olive, capers, hint of green onion... showing in the middle. Definitely not in a bad way. On the finish , a hint of white pepper but a surprising amount of stiff oak tannin on the finish suggests this one still has at least a couple of years left. Holding the other bottle to pair with salmon and lemon/garlic/butter sauce and capers, and rosemary and garlic potatoes.

Mar 9th, 2018Number 3 of 5 at the Salcheto winery. Their base level VNdM from estate vineyards. 100% Sangiovese (locally referred to as Prugnolo Gentile). Excellent meaty presentation of the classic. Forward high-toned cherry, rhubarb, spices, and violets. Balance is superb in such a value priced wine.
