2021 winter. A big wine, and frankly 15.5% is usually enough to give me pause. However, this doesn’t really fee out of balance - the structure of aglianico does its thing. I don’t get the raisiny notes or residual sweetness that put me off of recent bottles of Bea’s Pagliaro, another pinnacle example of a great regional variety that I loved for a long time.

This is in great shape, much lighter than I expected. Initially didn’t smell aged, but over an hour it evolved and showed more aged characteristics. Still has some dried fruit flavors, good acidity and tannins, not much length though. Slight ripeness but surprisingly balanced. Jenn and 2 others.
