Broken Stones Red Rhone Blend
Needed some time to open. A bit green and vegetal at first. 2 hours in decant and it smoothed out with nice texture. Nice but needs time I think. Will wait a couple of years on next one.

Dec 11th, 2014Enjoyed a 12-hour pit roasted pig BBQ with friends and #SaxumVineyards#SaxumVineyards#SaxumVineyards was the star. The 2009 #Saxum Broken Stones #Syrah blend was fantastic! Open at least 6 hours prior to tasting to soften. This dark beauty is juicy, deep and weighty. Wonderful minerality, earthiness with spice, blackberry and licorice. Super intense but oh so worth the wait!

Sep 4th, 2016Was fortunate to get this aged bottle at auction at a great price. My first Broken Stones. Age has softened the tannins to nice velvet and has likely taken (only) some edge off the rich Paso fruit, mostly from James Berry. I don’t detect much in the way of secondary/tertiary notes. That, and given a strong acid backbone, I venture this is only middle aged.
