A massively rich and opulent wine. Shows what Paso can do. Drink over the next few years

Still young, but not frightfully so. But awfully delicious! Let's see if Delectable can identify this bottle.

2010 Saxum, Terry Hoage. Nailed it, but needs time. No shortage of ripeness here, but needs some evolution for balance. Can't wait for a few years to zip by on this bad boy.

Another winner by Justin Smith at Saxum, the 2010 Terry Hoage is a nearly equal mix of syrah, grenache, and mourvedre (with a slight dominance of syrah - 46/33/21). The tannins are sweet and completely resolved, so the palate beautifully follows up the sweet blackberries on the nose with a seamless mouthfeel, lots of glycerin, and a balanced, lingering finish. Cannot imagine this wine drinking any better than it is right now.

Back to a big domestic red for the Caps :) Hint of smoked meat, oak, pepper, an almost skunkiness?, root veggies, quite hot on the nose, with big rough tannins. This comes off much younger than its 6 years, curious what this does in 20 years. Interesting wine I think, but it's one of those that I much prefer the nose to the palate.

Black fruit, barnyard, camphor, black olive, pepper, soy sauce, teriyaki. Really showcases the savory side of Syrah.
