Screaming Eagle
Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon
Mom's 65th. Least tasty I've had of theirs. Pretty hot, not well integrated.

Jun 5th, 2017Some wines are divisive because of the wine maker, others draw criticism for style or marketing or some other of a myriad of reasons. As much as I love my wine lover brethren the "haters gonna hate" description is very apt in our community. Screaming Eagle is one of those wines for sure. The prevailing criticism is that it doesn't merit the tariff or something similar. Well....this is my first SC since the '97 and it was absolutely f'n amazing and profound. Tremendous depth with bright, lively fruit, rich gravely soil, smoke and camphor. A difference maker.

May 8th, 2017Yes, I just soiled my pants.
Brilliant effort. So soft, round and plush. Nose and mouthfeel is velvety. Nice opulent notes of maple syrup, coffee and kirsch. Outstanding. Gifted by the mercurial @Bill Bender.

Jul 22nd, 20182009 Screaming Eagle cabernet. The single Cal cab we drank during the K charity wine dinner. Massive wine- we decanted about 2 hours by the time it was served and it was still enormous. A little bit unfair to drink this after the '90 Cheval and '90 Rothschild. This wine was just all around bigger in every way- more fruit, riper fruit, heavy leather and tobacco, huge tannins, plus additional savory notes of olives, and game. Fun to try it in the order we did and definitely noted that we can decant for longer next time.

May 21st, 2016Magnum 2009 Screaming Eagle Cab. Drank during museum dinner (post lunch at Il P). Despite its youth, this wine drank perfectly. There's a distinct suppleness with this wine that is so pleasing. Immensely enjoyed by the whole table. Note that K thought he would drink this wine again at same point in time- surprised by how good it was in spite of how young it was.

Apr 19th, 20162009 Screaming Eagle Cabernet. Drank w David, Andy, Lisa, McC at Cassia. This wine is awesome. Hands down everyone loved this wine. Beautiful dark fruit and vanilla on the nose. Massive, but not over-powering. Balanced tannins. We were obsessed w this wine.
