Paired with a similarly aged Cote Rotie and poured in a blind tasting at my home to a group of interested wine drinkers.
This showed a more generous, fleshy expression of the grape as expected and still had a finely chiseled structure of finely textured tannins that echo a dryness of the vineyard's limestone soils.
Very good new world Syrah.

Paired with a Francis Mallmann inspired grilled meal of smoky pan roasted potatoes, grilled carrot and red bell peppers, salmon with chives and butter. After standing over the grill for half an hour some of the nuance of this wine was lost on me... But on day two this had blossomed with one of the clearest expressions of cassis I think I've ever smelled in wine. Deeply colored and scented, with blueberry, menthol, eucalyptus, elegantly balanced and long. In a happy place to enjoy now and over 3-5.

Stolman Syrah Origins '09. A little shy, but showing capacity to age and signature balance of ripe fruit and fresh acidity

$29.99 wine house price. Tons of industrial notes. Burning peppers. Tar and smoke. Just popped. Needs some time to pep up.
