Tenuta Monolo
Riserva Bramaterra Nebbiolo Blend

2000 | Red Blend
(60% Nebbiolo / 20% Croatina/ 10% Vespolina / 10% Uva Rara)
Tenuta Monolo (Umberto Gilodi); Riserva Piedmont; Bramaterra, Italy
(91-93; Drink 2020-2028)
Far better than prior bottles of 2000 a year or so ago, I'm now convinced those earlier bottles were flawed in some fashion.

Takes 30 minutes and then wowza yowza. Nose is stunning. Sappy and pure. Red cherries, hint of caramel, dust, sawdust. Wild mint. Old tea. Stunning. Palate has laser like focus. Great freshness and acidity and early to mid season cherries and decaying leaves. Elegant and perfectly balanced. Long finish and velvety, sweet and almost resolved tannins. Great energy and presence. Lovely hit of opulence in the mid. Tannins are sweet and silky but gain more substance with air. Got decades left

Pretty, but stubbornly tannic, and with a lingering bitterness

Younger and more lively than the 1990. Nose has the hoisin, soy thing but it seems more youthful. Insane spice. So so good. Glorious spice, tar, leather and chestnut. There is major major umami on this nose. Layered, soupy and sappy also Groucho. And Harpo. A nose one can say is the epitome of Brameterra 9.6 nose for me. Insane freshness and purity. Like the most fresh thing you can imagine for a 21 year old wine. This is teeming with energy and freshness and just wow. This is the old person who can still run a 40 yard sprint and still compete with people 20 years their younger. Insanely insanely comlplex and the balance is just perfect. Has 10 years ahead of it. Wowsers. What a gorgeous wine. 1990 finish is longer but this is more complex.
Update. 2000 is much better than 1990. After two hours it is stunning and super expansive aromatically. 9.4 to 9.5.

Soft and ready to go. Delightful though.

Dusty raisins and old rum soaked fruitcake. Light, pleasant bodied, with the hallmarks of a good aged Nebbiolo.

Very nice example of aged alto piemonte nebbiolo. Decanted for 5 hours - would recommend closer to 2 or 3. Quite delicious but somewhat restrained. Very classic nebbiolo on the nose and palate. Finish is slightly thin and the acid is slightly lacking but this was a very nice pairing with some dry aged strip steaks. Lots of sediment.
