Finally was able to get my hands on a Hayne Petite Syrah with appropriate age while my younger stash waits in the cellar. I had high hopes that were disappointed. It came out of the bottle with a blast of sweet blackberries, pepper, rose and plum but seemed to tighten up and after some air had a distinct amarone/raisin taste. Not what I expected given the plentiful fruit in younger and middle-aged bottles I’ve tried. My guess is it’s more the bottle than the vintage.
