Les Roises Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut Champagne Chardonnay
60mois bottling. Sparkling Montrachet? 😅 Les Roises, coming from the oldest vines in the UC lineup with 2015 being the base vintage here is just about as good as it gets in a wine that sparkles. Simply complete. South facing and thus quicker to evolve, it explodes from the glass with intensity you just don’t get from Champagne outside of the ultra elite like that of UC and Selosse. Yields are lower than Enfers, but the vines are close to 20 years older.
Such is shown in its elaborate aromatic complexity already, flaunting deep layers of powerful and ripe orchard fruit, citrus oils, kouign amann pastry, white flowers and roasted nuts. The palate is immensely concentrated with impeccable energy and precision in its delivery which leads to its long chalky mineral and saline inflicted finale which just keeps going. These wines have really taken off in recent times, and as a consumer I’d like no one to know but that ship as sailed. This is as good as it gets in Champagne.
