Jul 12th, 2024Brought to Tasting Group as a fun wine as it’s technically not testable. As usual, this was served double-blind. In the glass, the wine is a bright ruby color with a translucent core. It’s noticeably darker than it was when I first had this wine back in 2018. Back then, it was shockingly pale. The nose is powerful, massive in some ways with intensely perfumed fruit. Almost smelled like the taste of a Bomb Pop when you get to the part where the stick becomes exposed. On the palate, Rainier cherries and ripe brambles, with star anise, and a hint of pepper. Medium…bordering medium + acid with some really sneaky tannins. Finish is long. This wine still comes across quite primary yet, not quite as interesting as it was when I first tried it shortly after release. I’ll hold my remaining bottle to see what some additional age brings. I think some secondary characteristics could really help round this out.

1 person found it helpfulMar 15th, 2020Elegant and lighter expression of Garnacha from Commando G. Fresh and tart red cherry and raspberry. Dried cherries as well. Violet, rose, licorice. Compost, Brett, peppercorn, and roasted tea. Bright ruby with garnet rim. Low concentration. Medium (-) acidity, medium alcohol, medium (+) tannin. On silt, clay, and granitic sandy soils. Whole cluster fermentation, 50-60 year old vines, vinified in concrete tanks and large old foudre. Altitude: 950m.

Whole cluster character adds significant amplitude to this wine’s aroma, its woodsy, spiced, and reminiscent of crisp red berries and dried flowers. The palate is focused, taut and finely grained. There’s cranberry, black tea, Ceylon, sage, and Brett. Tasted over several hours and after a few it took a plunge, the brett dominating the rest of the wine. LBT had very little brett character.

The color is shockingly pale, almost Pinot Noir-like but it’s clearly Grenache with plums, brambles, dark cherries, herbs de Provence, fresh rosemary, minerals, crushed rock...this has it all. Very tannic at this stage but whoa...the future is extremely bright. Delicious stuff. Need to find more.
