Monterey Petite Sirah
Deep purple-red. Green pepper, raw green veg (asparagus?), cherry, wood and a hint of menthol in nose. Blackberry with length, spice and black licorice in mouth, good balance, tactile skin tannins and dryness on finish, medicinal note (like cough syrup) in aftertaste. I don't mind veg notes as many Monterey County reds and whites have that character over the decades, but the raspy tannin finish and wood in nose and mouth are off putting. Perhaps more aeration or decanting would help? Good value as typical in label, Blue Canyon WIne Co. in Greenfield CA is actual grower-producer. Decent varietal character. Mildly flawed but drinkable

Oct 31st, 2017This petite Sirah is great right out of the bottle.
Beautiful deep purple in color with a purple rim.
Fruity on the nose with blackberries, wildflowers, black currants, vanilla, wood, raisins, cooked plums, strawberries, stewed cherries, wet leaves and black pepper.
Full-bodied and smooth with great looking legs and medium acidity.
Dry and Fruity on the palate, with blackberries, prunes, cooked strawberries, black currants, earth, wood, licorice and peppercorn.
Great, long, finish with full round tannins.
What an enjoyable petite Syrah. Nicely balanced, big and bold. Exactly how I like my petite Syrah.
Had it by itself, which was awesome, but can be had with stew or with grilled meats.
14.5% alcohol by volume.
