Vintage Porto Port Blend
Lots of fun bottles were popped at Al’s hosting this past weekend for his birthday celebration. All were served blind. 1 sparkler, 2 whites, 6 reds and 1 dessert wine.
At 49yrs young, the color here was gorgeous. Clear and focused in the glass. Chocolate dipped raspberries spread over graham crackers on the nose. Still retaining sweetness and a touch of acidity. Zero heat. Cherry infused cocoa with fig on the palate before the finish ends ever so effortlessly. I called this ‘70s Port.

Dark orange in color with a brick hue.
Sweet nose of peaches, cherries, sweet strawberries, figs, raisins, cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, Indian spices, vanilla, wood, smoke and milk chocolates.
Full bodied and bold with high acidity.
Sweet on the palate with cooked plums, sweet cherries, dried figs, tobacco, spices, wood, vanilla, cloves, dark coffee, Indian spices, nutmeg, cinnamon and limes.
Long sweet and spicy finish with lemons and peppercorn.
This almost 50 year old Vintage Port is a great dessert wine. Interesting and tasty. Spicy and complex.
I really enjoyed the nose here, actually, better than the palate, although I loved the complexity. Very unique and special.
I paired it with a chocolate Sunday with macadamia nuts and a chocolate fudge.
20% alcohol by volume.
91 points.
$250.

Jun 4th, 2017Deep purplish ruby red. Nice amount of stewed pruned raisins, dark chocolate, and nutmeg. So smooth and well integrated. Velvety and great texture. In addition to the stewed berries, floral and charred pear. Seems well aged and definitely not tired. Long and lingering finish. Drink till 2023.
