Schulen Spätburgunder
Always a wonderful wine. Nose is soppy red cherries, limestone, herbs and all presented in a super subtle way. Gorgeous wet earth under. Palate is all red fruits, citrus and tons of tanginess and freshness. Great acids and form, powdery tannins. Needs some time but the length and purity are all there for my score to go higher. Tightest young Schulen I can remember. As this airs it gains concentration and explosiveness. Tiny red fruits bursting in your mouth with terrific grip and noble structure. Big tannins. What a wine. Still a 9.3. but I can see 9.4-9.5 with 6-18 hours of air.

Aug 29th, 2023Pinot Noir (aka Spätburgunder) from vineyards on Jurassic limestone soil. Aged for 20 months in oak barrels (10% new). Quite elegant nose with dark fruit.aromas and some oaky notes. Tart red fruit, quite harsh on the palate, tannic, very high acidity. I was rather disappointed, expected more from this producer

Very sappy, cherry skins and pits. Dense, opened up over the course of dinner. Could have been the Pork shank. Forest fruits and dark brightness, an oxymoron I know. Delicious stuff wether you decant or not. Some yrs. won’t hurt.
