An exceptional classic wine. Pours dark ruby in color with fantastic notes of dark fruit and smoked herbs. Full bodied but exceptionally smooth, with unusually fine tannins for its age and a great finish. York Creek California Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 1983
1983 decanted for 6+ hours. During decant nose progressed from musty/earthy to a lively leather, bark, and earth. Color was a fantastic deep garnet showing age around the edges as it faded into an amber. Surprisingly light mouthfeel for a Cabernet but smooth, with red and black fruit and graphite. Tannins are nicely developed and integrated well over time. A bit of acidity towards the end hinting towards a decline. Finish was short and uneventful. — 8 years ago
