‘Certified Green’. It’s also got the extra name of ‘Red Earth’ now. So purple it’s almost looks black in the center. Interesting aromas. Hint of rocas, horehound or pennyroyal, blackberry jams. Pine cones. Flavors are dense and dry. Thick body. Chewy tannins. Has a Dutch black licorice streak too. This is what one expects in CA Petite Sirah. Meaty, heady, and hefty stuff. I tend to love this kind of thing, so it’s right in my wheelhouse, and it’s a steal of a deal. — 16 days ago
Very dark color. Aroma of cut lumber and linseed. Musky berries. Flavors are juicy and lively. Complex and complete. There is a fleshy depth to the palate. Plenty of tannins, but core of red/black fruits. Black currants. Lots of black currants. — 20 days ago
Another bottle of this blend. Dramatic art on the label. I guess it’s an oak. Dark, dark color. Opaque. Smells like wet rocks and soils. And something fruity. Woodsy and bushy herbs too. Flavors are smooth and elegant. Fruit driven. Rich, ripe red and black skinned fruits. Has a herbal side. Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme? This is a nice red wine. Art and heavy bottle are worthy of its elegance and style. — 3 days ago
Basic no frills label. Got it at the winery. Pretty dark color. Aroma is rocks and dry lumber in the sun. Dark berries. Flavors are more subtle and elegant for Petite Sirah. It’s got a freshness and complexity that’s nice. — 13 days ago
This is Pinot Grigio. Light and crisp. Simple but nice. Hint of lemon water. Easy. But like-able. — 17 days ago
Cheery, cheesy label. This is a light, yet enjoyable easy drinker. Has some lemon water and a refreshing crispness. It’s great for three to four bucks. — 7 days ago
Regular, boring label. Smells like cooked berry pie. Also a forest stream. Flavors are on point. Deep and dense with a hint of mint. This is a great on point cheap Petite Sirah. — 7 days ago
Trying again. On sale at Grocery Outlet for about $5. Dark color of a black cherry in the glass. Smells a bit like berry sugar (jammy) and band-aid. Little cut for lumber. Flavors are muted and fairly big for pinot. Has a nice zip and zing at the end. Aged well. Still plenty of acid. It’s great for Lodi Pinot Noir. New world style with just a hint of complexity. — 16 days ago
This is called ‘The Fat Dog, House Red’. It has a ‘happy dog’ vibe. Lower alcohol at 12% ABV. Blood red. Smells like berries and rusty nails. Flavors are decent cherry and cola with an acid bite. A true to type (if a bit thin) Italian red. — 23 days ago
Tree Kilpatrick
This is a Sonoma Valley Syrah. It’s hot coming in at 15% ABV. Pretty color with a magenta edge and a deep purple core. Aroma is heady and musky. But of hot rocks in a sauna. Blackberry cream. Flavors are on point. Tar and leather with a deep berry middle. Licorice hint. Nice tannins. Doesn’t have a alcohol hit. It works pretty well. And it’s a great deal at $5. This is the best of the ‘second cheapest wine’ bottles so far. — 3 days ago
