Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2020

Delectable Wine
9.1

The 2020 Chianti Classico is such a classy wine. Deep and layered, yet wonderfully translucent, the 2020 is one of the best editions of this wine I can remember tasting. Macerated dark cherry, kirsch, cedar and pipe tobacco open first, but what I am most drawn to is the wine's textural resonance and sheer power. The 2020 possesses remarkable depth yet retains the transparency that is such a signature here. This is a fabulous showing. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, August 2023)

Monção e Melgaço Alvarinho 2023

Had the 2023 in August of 2025. Albariño meets Vinho Verde in this one. What a fantastic wine. Some apple and pear. Stone fruit is dancing around in there. Some citrus with honeysuckle. Lightly sweet but dry at the same time. What a fantastic wine. Definitely plan to get some more. Loved it. — 2 months ago

E. Guigal

Lieu-Dit Saint-Joseph Syrah 2015

My second time trying this ‘Lieu-Dit’ Saint-Joseph bottling by northern Rhône powerhouse Guigal, from the exceptional 2015 vintage. It is a better wine than it was in August last year (at which point it was a little closed down). Frankly, it is a brilliant wine from this lesser appellation that, in short, is a full-blooded expression of Syrah with bags of intent.

Intense aromatics, a medley of plum, hoisin, fig compote, leather and black pepper. The palate is incredibly rich and saturated, packed full of blackberry, cranberry, an umami quality, jamon iberico and aged beef. Tannins and acidity are both high but are perfectly poised in harmony with the fruit. The finish is impressively long, and moreish. In a terrific spot now at five years but this should continue to sing in a decade. Really a thoroughly enjoyable northern Rhône.
