Refreshingly spicy nose lending a clean beginning that explodes with mouth-clinging blueberries with rather perfect acid tannin balancing, complimenting, clinging albeit more of a front mouth hang then a long velvet powder slide home. This wine is a perfect match with Andy's rather lean beef/pork/veal meatballs simmering in a perfect basil/tomato arrabbiada mound of creamy polenta (amazing!)! Pescara is situated across the street from our azure Atlantic Beach, NC ocean. I am sitting at the bar mesmerized by the perfect pastels of an Autumn AB sunset😎 Wow! We’re prepping for an upcoming class with this beauty, which comes from the southern tip of Corsica (the most southerly wine region of France 🇫🇷 ); an appellation called Corse Figari AOC.

The vineyards are farmed biodynamically (certified since 2006) and are situated on a plateau at the base of the Omu di Cagna mountain ⛰️, not far from dramatic Bonifacio cliffs rising up from the azure blue waters of the Mediterranean.

It’s made with Vermentinu (aka Rolle or Vermentino) by Clos Canarelli, devoted to producing high quality terroir-driven wines made with indigenous varieties.

This wine offers a bouquet of lemon and orange peel, white peach, crisp green apple, just-ripe pineapple, honeydew, citrus blossom, elderflower, crushed stone, arugula, and custard.

It is both vibrant and rich with a creamy mouthfeel and layered complexity. It’s absolutely delicious and we cannot wait to share it next month.

A Sauv Blanc in the dead of winter!? I know, crazy right? But this Sauv B is more well balanced than a 14 year old Olympic Gymnast. Just a little kiss of honey and melon on the nose gives way to a touch of grapefruit and the smallest hint of kiwi and butterscotch on the tongue, all quickly washed away with a swash of super clean sea water. Château Pradeaux

Bandol Mourvedre 2014

Châteaux Pradeaux is located in Bandol AOC, of Provence, France, near the magnificent coastal town of Saint Cyr-sur-Mer, situated on the Mediterranean Sea. I imagine there are breathtaking views of the azure waters from the vineyards and estate of Château Pradeaux. 🌊

Generations of the Portalis family have produced wines from this estate dating back to 1752. The land has seen devastation such as the French Revolution, Phylloxera, and World War II, and yet today it remains strong, carrying forward the family traditions, thanks to the fortitude, will, and courage of the Portalis family. 💪

👁 It is medium ruby with garnet rim variation. It has a subtle haze, perhaps because this wine was not fined nor filtered.

👃 On the nose this wine has a baked, black fruit quality, with notes of blackberry, plum, and black cherry 🍒 ; also notes of dried lavender, anise, clove, cedar, nutmeg, tobacco, leather, peat moss, meat, and barnyard.

👄 On the palate, this wine is dry. It has medium acidity, a medium(+) body, medium alcohol, high tannins, and medium(+) intensity in flavors that are consistent with the nose.

The grapes were not destemmed in the winemaking process, which has undoubtedly contributed to the strong and grippy tannins experienced in the glass. This wine benefits from decanting and could also benefit from more time in the bottle. 👍

In sum, this wine tells a story of commitment, perseverance, and respect for the land from which it’s cultivated. It’s made with minimal intervention and has 95% Mourvèdre and 5% Grenache. 📚

After long day on the Harley, this crisp rose from Provence proves clean showing an essential mineral-based quench washing away the trail dust and enriching the scallops, etc. in the brilliant French garden @ The Market Place on 20 Wall Street as sweet jazzy guitar works with the wine melting the neck and shoulder stress associated with 7 hours in the saddle screaming across NC, from my azure Carolina coast to our monster waves of blue mountains - Asheville!
